About the role

The accidents that motivate us are rarely about missing data — they're about data that was technically present but never connected to the decision in front of the pilot. A weight-and-balance number that was never tied to stopping distance. A visual approach that's legal by day and lethal at night, with the restriction buried on page eight.

We're building a team to close that gap, and we need a senior aeronautical engineer to anchor it. You'll turn first-principles aircraft performance and safety modeling into functionality that lives inside flight planning — and you'll do it in partnership with aircraft manufacturers, so the numbers are authoritative, not approximated.

Some of that work goes beyond what's in the POH today. Working directly with our manufacturing partners, we develop performance data that pilots have never had at their fingertips — for example, single-engine takeoff and rejected-takeoff (accelerate-stop) performance charts, modeled and validated with the people who built the airframe.

What you'll do

  • Model aircraft performance — takeoff and landing distance, climb, weight and balance, contaminated runways — and wire it directly into planning decisions
  • Develop advanced performance data with our manufacturing partners, including charts that don't exist in the POH today, like single-engine takeoff and rejected-takeoff performance
  • Build safety functionality that connects the dots pilots shouldn't have to connect themselves: terrain, obstacles, icing, runway condition, performance limits
  • Combine first-principles engineering models with AI where it sharpens accuracy or coverage — and insist on validation where it counts
  • Work alongside pilots and engineers to make sure the math becomes something usable in the cockpit, not a spreadsheet

What we're looking for

  • A degree in aeronautical/aerospace engineering or equivalent depth; strong grasp of aircraft performance
  • Experience translating performance and safety models into software, or eagerness to
  • Rigor and humility about uncertainty — you know the difference between a model and the world
  • Comfortable using AI/ML to extend modeling work, with the judgment to validate it against ground truth
  • Pilots and people who've worked with manufacturers or certification especially encouraged

Why Tropiq

  • Profit sharing and a direct line to product decisions
  • Work that can genuinely prevent accidents — the reason we get out of bed
  • Small, senior, remote-first team that ships

Don't meet every bullet? Apply anyway. We care more about how you think and what you've built than a checklist.
